Ever since I can remember, I have loved understanding how things work and even more so how our minds work. This lead me to the obvious career choice of Psychology. I studied my BA Psychology, and then B Psychology (Counselling) at Nelson Mandela University, completing this in 2014. During the final year of studies, BPysch students are required to complete a thesis and a 6 month practicum. I focused on the Early Onset of Bipolar Disorder in Children for my thesis and still have a keen interest in this area, presenting on this topic at an International Conference in 2015. My practicum was done at Elsen Academy, which is a school that caters for the needs of children in Port Elizabeth with learning challenges from Grades 1 - 12.
Since completing my studies, I have worked at Early Inspiration, an organisation that has a vision to see the children of today developed into ambitious, confident, knowledgeable, dynamic leaders through teacher training, home visit programmes & parent programmes in underprivileged communities. My role was to manage and implement the training and support programmes for the teachers. Through this, I was also able to assist in connecting these practitioners with necessary psychosocial resources and interventions.
I have a heart for young people and love working with the developing mind. Early intervention is the key to creating meaningful lives where children can grow into well-rounded and balanced adults that contribute purposefully to society. In the same breath, I am a firm believer that it is never too late to change and to create the life that you have always dreamed of.
On a side note, I am a coffee enthusiast, bookworm & lover of animals! My family and friends are extremely important to me, and I believe that I wouldn't be where I am today without them. My husband and I love travelling and exploring, learning about new cultures and trying out new foods.
I would love to meet you and support you in whichever phase of life you find yourself in.
